Word of Introduction

Dear colleagues and friends,

The end of the year is traditionally the time when we, on behalf of the Czech Society of Cardiology committee, request the pleasure of your participation at the CSC Annual Congress , which is going to take place on 1– 4 May 2011.

Although the year 2011 will probably be one of the most difficult ones for the Czech health care from an economic perspective, we will make an effort to keep the standard quality of the professional program with the dominance of postgraduate training of doctors and nurses and other cardiology staff regardless of the pessimistic scenario. We are grateful for presentations of our friends from Slovakia, which are always of high quality and invoke positive responses. The CSC work groups have managed to invite top experts, therefore, the international character of the congress is ensured.

This year’s congress will bring much important news in the field – e.g. new CSC Recommendations for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, CSC Recommendations for the preparation of patients with cardiac malfunctions for non-cardiac operations and further recommended procedures which significantly affect the management of patients. Newly, there will be inter-field symposia and seminars concerning economic and legal aspects of cardiology.

Moreover, new rooms of higher capacity will be available together with a rest zone on the 3rd floor of hall E, better equipment and technology for presentations. We strongly believe that most of you will be also pleasantly surprised by the accompanying social program which is going to bring you back to the “golden era” of Czechoslovakia of the 1930’s.

We are convinced that the 19th CSC Annual Congress will again present the ongoing dynamic development of Czech cardiology and regardless of the impact of the economic crisis on health care it will become a valid platform for discussions on new technologies and treatment procedures being implemented in the wide clinical practice.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Brno and we hope the congress days will bring you not only new professional motivation and good mood but also that they will convince you of positive future of Czech cardiology.
